If you haven’t fished Lake Broken Bow, I HIGHLY recommend that you get there as fast as you can! Located in theOuachita National Forest and at the foot of theKiamichi Mountains (and the Talimena Scenic Drive), you will not find a more picturesque place to go fishing in Oklahoma.
Bryce grew up in the area and has fished the lake his entire life. He won many tournaments there over the years before offering his services to the public. He knows how to get you on fish – quickly. We caught several dozen largemouth bass, smallmouth bass and kentucky (spotted) bass throughout the morning. I hooked a sizable smallmouth bass in Bryce’s favorite cove, but right when it got to the boat, the line broke – dang it! Later, that rascal jumped about 20 yards from the boat and shook loose my plastic worm!!
All in all, it was a fantastic trip – gorgeous scenery, fall foliage colors, and fish everywhere we went. I would like to tell you more, but I promised Bryce not to give away all his secrets.

P.S. Bryce and his wife are expecting their first son in January!!
Lake American Horse is temporarily closed. Several of the roads leading to the lake were washed away recently. There is absolutely no access to the lake right now. Unfortunately, I didn’t find this out until I drove all the way out there from OKC. It might save someone else the trip!
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the update Nancy. Were you able to hike to the lake and fish or did you go to another lake nearby?

Avid Angler Terry Evans sends us this report from Lake Hudson:
Spent a couple of days at Hudson and caught more bass than I ever have in a small period of time at the norh end of the lake, in the creeks. Water was fairly murky. I caught 10 largemouth on red worms with glitter. Most were in the 2-3 pound range. Most were 4-8 ft down, suspended on ledges.
At night, I landed 3 good ones on black lizards and lost one that would have topped out from 7-9 lbs, but it rapped itself around a tree branch and snapped the line (one of those ‘the big one that got away’ stories).
That was one of the biggest fish I’ve seen at Hudson. I got to see it before I lost it. It made me sick to my stomach when I lost it. My wife thought I was going to throw my rod in the lake! There’s now a lunker swimming around with a hook and a lizard hanging out its mouth.
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the report Terry. What a great fishing trip! Somebody go catch Terry’s lunker and send in a picture and measurements…
Aspiring Pro Mike Diehl and I had the opportunity to fish Lake Texoma last Friday, and believe it or not, it was Mike’s first time on the lake! We had just a few hours and needed to maximize his introduction to the lake. Since I’ve fished Texoma for the last 22 years, I had the opportunity to be the “fishing guide” and showed him a few good spots.
The bass were biting well off the points just southeast of the Alberta Creek railroad bridge. I caught multiple small largemouth bass, while Mike managed to catch a large smallmouth bass. The stripers were also very active on topwater bite between the Alberta Creek railroad bridge and the Roosevelt bridge. The catfish appeared to be hitting multiple jugs near coves.
Mike’s Note:Lake Texoma is huge and it really surprised me as to how big it was in person. If you don’t get that way often, hiring a fishing guide would be a great investment for an action packed day of fishing at all the right spots.
Editor’s Note: Thanks again Mike for taking me out on your boat and allowing me to be a “fishing guide” for the day! I look forward to our next trip together!!
Guide Bryce Archey sends us this report from Lake Broken Bow:
Fishing is really beginning to pick up as you can see by the photo the quality of fish are getting better.
Number wise we are catching between 15 to 20 fish a morning on my trips. As the weather begins to cool off the fishing should heat up even more.
Editor’s Note: Thanks for the report and picture Bryce! If you would like to go fishing at Lake Broken Bow with Bryce Archey, visit his web site at: www.brokenbowlakeguide.com or call him at: 580-494-6447 or 870-582-4561.
Guide David Clark of Fish On!is sponsoring a raffle for a fishing trip to benefit the OKWD Hybrid/Striper programs. The details are as follows:
FISH ON!!!! RAFFLE
All Money to benefit the Oklahoma Wildlife Department
I am raffling off a weekend Striper fishing trip to Lake Ouachita (20 miles W of Hot Springs Ark).
It is $20 per ticket and I will only sell 50. 100% of the money will be donated to the Oklahoma Wildlife Department. They will quadruple all funds donated.
The $1000.00 donated will become $4000.00. The money will be used towards the Oklahoma Hybrid/Striper programs. The drawing will be at the OSBA Nov. meeting. (do not have to be present to win)
This is for a day and a half of fishing, and up to four anglers. We would meet at daylight Sat. morning (1 usually camp) go in for a shore lunch (hopefully fish fry) go back out, fish till dark and fish Sunday morning till about 11am and then pack up and come home.
It is for a fall/winter trip either the fall/winter of 2007/2008 or 2008/2009. (I consider fall/winter being Nov. thru Jan.)
The biggest fish that we have caught there has been in Nov. Dec, and Jan. This is for the fishing part of the trip only. If you don’t want to camp, there are a couple of fairly nice motels on the water front for about $65 a night.
To purchase your ticket, call me at 918-724-6786 or email me at David@FishOnOK.com.
